The Fairfield High School Boys soccer team has been a powerhouse in the Greater Miami Conference for a long time and they hope to regain that status after a seventh-place finish last season.
"We have to play as a team. We have some real good individual players but we must come together as a team and take advantage of our chances," said Chad Reed, who is entering his seventh season as head coach. "Defensively we can't make mistakes."
Key returnees
As sophomore starters, Zak Moss and Joel Ritz were major contributors to the Fairfield team that made it to the state finals two seasons ago.
Moss, who was first team All-GMC last year, is a defender with "a very powerful left foot" Reed said.
Ritz was tabbed for the All-GMC second team last season. "(Ritz) can score or finish inside the 18-yard line," said Reed. "He can find the goal and he has a good work rate."
Promising newcomers
Junior Marc Hansson played defender and attacker. Reed said this year Hansson will play more attacker and have more chances to score.
Another junior expected to make a bigger contribution is forward Kyle Troutman.
"Kyle is a very hard-working guy. He pressures the other team and forces them into turnovers," Reed said.
Senior midfielder Jacob Waters brings "experience and good vision" to the Indians, Reed said.
Quotable
"We'd love to go far in the tournament and compete for a league title. We've won the GMC three of the last six years and we want to get back to that and to win the district and go far in the tournament."
